Matcha

100% tea leaves – nothing else. It is grown and produced in a unique way by artisanal farmers in Japan. The leaves are not steeped, but rather ground into a very fine powder. The whole tea leaf is consumed, providing a phenomenal amount of antioxidants (137 times more than in a brewed cup of tea!).

The origins of matcha date back to the Tang dynasty in China, where powdered green tea was first introduced as a medicine and a drink for Buddhist monks. In Japan, matcha was introduced in the 12th century by the Buddhist monk Eisai, who brought tea seeds back from China and began growing tea in Kyoto.
